Katsuo-ji Hydrangea Festival 2025 Overview
The “Hydrangea Festival” at Katsuo-ji Temple is an early summer event where visitors can fully enjoy hydrangeas that change color during the rainy season in the vast precincts of the “Temple of Winning Luck,” which is known as an ancient temple.
A variety of red, purple, blue, white, and other hydrangeas (including Western hydrangea, Chinese hydrangea, Tama-hydrangea, and Otafuku-hydrangea) brightly color the grounds of the temple, which cover an area of 80,000 tsubo (about 1.5 acres). The contrast of the vermilion-lacquered main hall and the colors of the hydrangeas is a spectacular sight in early summer that has been loved in Japan since ancient times.
On rainy days, the moist and moist petals become even more lustrous, and on sunny days, they shine brightly under the sunlight filtering through the trees. The temple has long been adored as a “temple of winning luck,” and the votive shelves filled with winning dharma statues and dharma lottery tickets placed throughout the temple are popular photo spots only found here.

- The large clusters of trees are a sight to behold.
- Visitors can enjoy the Japanese taste and the vividness of the flowers at the same time with hydrangeas blooming against the backdrop of the vermilion-lacquered architectural beauty.
- There are also many photo spots with Dharma-mikuji standing in front of them! The two shots of cute daruma and hydrangea will be unforgettable.
