Mr. Garage, a green and interior store with 9 stores nationwide.
We would like to introduce you to garage SHIBUYA, located in Shibuya’s Scramble Square.
We spoke with Mr. Shindo, the public relations manager!
Super authentic horticultural store in a prime location in Tokyo
GARGE started in 2007 in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture. The company name was changed to Garage after a warehouse was converted into a store, and garage TOYOHASHI was opened as a green and interior store, which was still rare at that time. Since then, the company has expanded to nine stores nationwide and has three brands: GARAGE, Rust, and NONI.
Stores named “garage” offer workshops and a gallery space called “gareco,” and garage NAGOYA offers a popular botanical chapel for weddings in a store filled with greenery.
garage SHIBUYA has excellent access to the 9th floor of Shibuya Scramble Square, which is directly connected to Shibuya Station, and its vast storefront makes it one of the largest Garage Group stores in the Kanto region.
One of Garage’s important ideas is to value old things. The transition of materials over time is referred to as “aging,” rather than “deterioration over time.” Plants also develop a texture to their trunk skin over time, and as they change, you can sense their flavor and individuality. As a sign of this, the materials used in the store’s displays are made from old tools (brocante) that we actually went to Europe to purchase.

We have everything! Threatening assortment
garage SHIBUYA has More than 1,000 kinds of pots are on sale. The pots are arranged by size and material, and are displayed like a gallery. The pots, including rare pots made by rare artists, are categorized by size and material and arranged in an easy-to-see gallery-like manner, allowing you to choose the best pot for the place where you plan to display it and the purpose for which it will be used. We also carry one-of-a-kind pots.
Recently, it has become a trend to coordinate the pots with the greenery, such as ornamental plants, so we recommend that you look for your favorite pot here.

We also have a large selection of houseplants and greenery.
There is a wide variety of plants, from large ones suitable as a symbolic tree for the home to small ones that can be placed on a desk or hung on the wall, as well as succulents and tuberous plants, which are very popular nowadays.
One of Garage’s special features is the way they display their products, which is to recreate the way the plants originally grew in nature. For example, plants that peek out from under trees, or ferns that grow in the form of hanging ferns from above.
Visitors can choose plants by considering how they would decorate their own home with reference to the way they are displayed.

The interior goods are no less impressive.
For example, we carry pruning shears, which are indispensable for gardening, made by Toyama Cutlery using the same manufacturing process as Japanese swords, and products that can be used for a lifetime. We also carry tools such as johl pots and shovels made of materials that will become more durable as they are used more and more.
Interior goods include cutlery that will make your space look more elegant, plant-derived incense, bath goods, and other Garage-san-like items.

Since they try to include many Made in Japan products, they have many overseas customers, including pots made by artists.
purchasing power by an order of magnitude
Garage’s commitment to plants is also evident in their purchasing. They want to provide their customers with the best plants so that they can grow them with care for the rest of their lives. Of course, there are many cases in which he cannot sell his products unless he has a relationship with the grower, so he often has to go to the grower’s place frequently to finally purchase his products.
Surprisingly, he also goes into the mountains with the producers to pick plants that grow wild in the mountains. I think this is a very luxurious way to decorate your home with plants in their natural state. I think this is possible because of Garage’s long history and passion for plants.

Beginner-friendly! Generous support
You don’t have to worry about having so many to choose from. You can rest assured that the staff is very supportive.
The staff are all very knowledgeable and will guide you to the right product for you. On the day I visited, there were many customers shopping with the staff. They also give you a lecture on how to grow each plant according to where you plan to place it.
The company also offers excellent after-sales support. If you purchase a plant and pot at the same time, the company will repot the plant on the spot for free. (Conditions apply.)
They will also provide repotting service for a fee, even for plants you are growing at home. It is rare for Garage to go this far, but this service was born out of Garage’s desire for customers to spend a long time with their plants.

Some customers take pictures of the progress of their purchases and come to the store to consult with the staff, so you can rest assured that you can go to the store if you have any problems even after your purchase.
I had the image of driving to a large gardening store in the suburbs, but garageSHIBUYA is a convenient store where you can find everything you need in the middle of Tokyo! Please stop by. You’re sure to find something you’ll like!
