A cool flower shop for adults opened in Yamaya!
The “flowers and books” that make up the store’s logo are filled with a variety of specialties.
We interviewed the owner, Mr. Ichikawa!
Thoughts on opening a store in Yamaya
Mr. Ichikawa actually chose the Yamatani area from the beginning when deciding where to open his store.
The Yamatani area is a town that supported Japan after the war. He wanted to open a store in Yamaya, and as he met people in this area and was helped by many people, his desire to return the favor to everyone and to have his children love this town when they grow up in the future became stronger, and he wanted to revitalize this town for that purpose.
Finally, in February 2025, he opened a store in Yamaya.
They are actually in charge of taking care of some flowerbeds in the Yamaya area, and organizing events with other stores owned by the same generation in the Yamaya area (coffee shops, liquor stores, custom-made suit stores, etc.).

A florist that also sells books
The store’s name, San Jordi, refers to the Spanish celebration of giving flowers and books to each other, and since Ichikawa herself has always loved both flowers and books, both are displayed in the store.

The selection of books is filled with Ichikawa’s thoughts that he wants to convey, such as books that encourage children to think about peace, and books about LGBT with the hope that the world will become more tolerant of others. It is cool that he puts so much thought into his selection.
Some parents and children buy flowers and picture books together, so Mr. Ichikawa’s activities are gradually leading to the future of the Yamatani area.
An assortment full of originality
Cut flowers are basically custom-made. What impressed me was that when a customer requests congratulatory flowers, the company looks up information about the recipient’s store and brand, etc., and designs the product so that it matches the atmosphere of the recipient. They also listen carefully to the story of the recipient before creating the product, so even those who are not accustomed to giving flowers can feel comfortable asking for help.
Ichikawa says that unless a customer specifies otherwise, she often creates designs with a mature atmosphere.
She likes to use brown and dull-colored plants and natural brown colors for wrapping. This store is also recommended for those who like flowers with a more adult atmosphere◎.

They also have a very good selection of houseplants. He tries to put rare and good ones that cannot be bought at home centers.
He also likes things that are dark green, and there are a lot of lush plants with a deep green look. Many of the plants were rare and cool.

They also offer a service called “Plant Hospital,” in which if a plant you have purchased becomes ill, you can bring it to the store and they will take care of it for a certain period of time and provide intensive care. This service is another sign that the store is rooted in the community.
In addition to plants, the store also has flower vases obtained at French antique markets and other botanical sundries, giving it the aspect of a select store.

San Jordi’s has a great atmosphere, a cool assortment of products, and is a reliable store with strong roots in the community.
Workshops are regularly held on the second floor of the building, so please come visit us!
