Overview of Gyoda Hanatemizu Week
Gyoda Hanatemizu Week” is a city-wide hospitality event that expands the “Hanatemizu” initiative that began in April 2020 at Gyoda Hachiman Shrine, and from October 2020 has expanded the decorations to not only the shrine, but also to the eaves of stores and private homes.
The event started out as a way to heal worshippers at the Corona Disaster, but has gradually spread throughout the city, and has now become an established “town-walking” event that allows visitors to Gyoda City to enjoy the beauty of seasonal flower hand-watering while touring the shrine and historical buildings. The Hanatemizu event has now become a common sight throughout the city. Now, Hanatemizu has spread to more than 70 spots in the city.
In 2025, Hanatemizu will be held for about two weeks each month from March to June and October to December, with Hanatemizu installed at shrines, stores, and private residences. Seasonal hana-temizu, such as those featuring cherry blossoms and tulips in spring, hydrangeas in early summer, and cosmos and autumn leaves in fall, will welcome visitors to the shrine and promote the charm of the local flower culture.
In April 2021, a nighttime illumination event, “Light of Hope,” will be held in conjunction with the event, allowing visitors to enjoy a fantastic look that differs from the daytime Hanatatemizu. During the illumination period, Gyoda Hachiman Shrine, Mae-tama Shrine, and Oshijo Castle Ruins will be the main venues, and the hanatemizu will be decorated with colorful lights. Stores and private homes will also be lit up simultaneously, making the entire city center look like a garden of light.
This event is recommended for a wide range of people, including families, couples, and photography enthusiasts♪.
