Fuchu City Hometown Forest Hydrangea Festival 2025 Overview
The Fuchu City Folk Forest Museum’s garden is a space where history and nature are in harmony, with restored buildings from the Edo to Showa periods and a plum garden. The “Hydrangea Festival,” with more than 100 varieties of hydrangeas of more than 10,000 plants, is an early summer festival where visitors can enjoy the taste of the rainy season with all their senses against a shady backdrop. During the festival, an exhibition of potted hydrangeas, including rare varieties donated by Fuchu City, Hiroshima Prefecture, will be held in front of the main building, offering visitors the chance to find a favorite plant.
On the outdoor stage, the Musashi Kokufu Taiko, a local performing art born in 1982, will perform for 30 minutes each at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on June 1 (Sunday), providing an exciting performance regardless of weather.
The traditional street performance “sarumawashi” will be performed at any time during the festival, and the performance with the cute monkeys will bring a smile to your face.
On May 31 and Saturdays and Sundays in June, visitors can enjoy a special tea ceremony at “Baikyoan” (600 yen, limited quantity, 400 yen after the tea ceremony) with ume yokan made with ume plums produced at the museum, creating a relaxing moment surrounded by the sound of rain.
In addition, on June 15 and July 6, there will be a “hydrangea workshop” (300-500 yen) where visitors can make bag stencils and pressed flower art at the “Furusato Experience Hall,” a “haiku contest” with haiku suggestion boxes in the park, and performances of old-fashioned crafts such as candy-making and bekko candy, with a wide range of participants from adults to children. The photo contest will open on June 1 with an entry form. Museum staff will select photos, and winning entries will be introduced on the official website, Instagram, and in the park. Camera enthusiasts and non-camera enthusiasts alike are encouraged to give it a try.
